Rock Box Rocks in Iloilo City

Night out in Iloilo City? It has been a very long time since I had that. Despite not having that much money I agreed when a friend sent me a message if I’m free either Friday or Saturday night. The place we were supposed to be is Smallville, a popular nightspot here in Iloilo City.
About 30 minutes before the appointed time I sent a message asking where exactly are we supposed to meet. Smallville is such a busy place with a lot of bars, restos and the likes. I was told that we will be in Rock Box. Okay, Rock Box. Now, where the heck is it? I mean I heard about it for the first time. When I

Stanhome World Opens in Iloilo City

Maybe by the time you read this, the new Stanhome World has already opened its doors in Iloilo City since its Grand Opening is on the 10th of September. So what if it did? Well, it may not matter that much to some but for me, it is a reason for excitement. Why? Because I just think that it will play a big role in my life.

Yehey! 168 Plaza Mall is in Iloilo City

For bargain hunters like me, just hearing that 168 is here in Iloilo City was indeed a good news. Whenever I go to Manila, I would drop by 168 and get something for my family and other items that I might be able to resell. Thus, I told myself that I really have to go there today, not tomorrow but really today.I asked a friend to go with me and off we went to check out the place.

The newest shopping place, 168, is located in Iznart St. The area where it can be found is where Allegro Theater used to be. It is sandwiched between Chowking Iznart and the ukay-ukay place. It is very easy to find since one can see a lot of balloons and huge flower arrangements at the entrance.

Dunkin' Donuts in Iloilo

Way back in the early '90s the first store of Dunkin' Donuts opened in Iznart St., Iloilo City. Beside it was a theater which has long been closed down. Ilonggos would line up just to partake of the tasty doughnuts. The queue would be several meters long and yet the customers would patiently wait just to have one or two of these delectable treats. This phenomenon went on for several weeks and the line tapered to a more manageable and shorter one after a while. It being the only 24 hours food chain at that time, it was a favorite hang-out place of those who are into nocturnal activities. That Dunkin' Donuts branch still exists despite the emergence of several other branches and similar stores.

Iloilo: My Home

Iloilo is such an interesting to live in. It has a very diverse culture and a much laid back atmosphere compared with other cities in the Philippines.

What makes Iloilo interesting?

Hhmm...It might be the Ilonggos themselves or their interactions with people coming from other places. There are many Ilonggos who made a name for themselves and excelled in their respective fields. There are also notorious Ilonggos whose names were splashed in newspapers because of controversies. The most interesting though are the common people who go through the rigors of daily life in Iloilo or in other places.

Iloilo is also known for its rich cuisine. Think batchoy, pancit molo, biscocho...the list goes on. Ilonggos are people who savor their food. That may be the reason why restaurants can be seen in almost every corner.

It has always been said that the people from Iloilo are gentle. Yes, they are but they are also capable of rants and anger. It is even said that one wouldn't know that an Ilonggo is already angry.

But then again, Iloilo and its people are quite unique.

Hala Bira!
